Free Training for Individual Employers and PAs

Are you currently employed as a Personal Assistant for an adult over the age of 18 and feel you could benefit from further training? Do you employ your own Personal Assistants and want to further their skills and knowledge, as well as your own? If so, Disability Sheffield are running a number of FREE courses for Personal Assistants and Individual Employers in partnership with Skills for Care and Sheffield City Council starting this November until March 2021.

Boloh Covid-19 Helpline

In many languages, Boloh means speak. If you are a Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic child ( 11+ ), young person, parent or carer, affected by Covid-19? you can speak to Barnado’s new helpline about your worries, problems and stresses during the pandemic. On the phone, helpline advisors can talk to you in English, Urdu, Punjabi or Hindi. Psychotherapists can provide therapeutic support in English, Hindi, Bengali, French and Punjabi.

Do you Care on Carers Rights Day

The theme for Carers Rights Day 2020 today is ‘Know Your Rights’. Sheffield Young Carers and Sheffield Carers Centre have made a series of campaign videos to mark Carers Rights Day. They want carers to understand they are not alone and that every carer has rights which can help to make their lives easier.

Home Instead Senior Care have contacted us to say that they have received funding for activity books which include word searches, suduko, spot the difference, memory games, geography quiz etc which are great at exercising your brain during lockdown . If you’re an activity book fan you can contact Home Instead for a copy. Please note that by informing you about the free books we are not recommending Home Instead to you as a care service provider.

John's Campaign Survey on Care Home Visiting

Do you have a family member or friend living in a care home ? Is access improving? Is family contact becoming more meaningful and appropriate? If not, where do the problems lie? Healthwatch Sheffield, Disability Sheffield, Sheffield Carers Centre and Age UK Sheffield are all supporting a survey by John’s Campaign, which wants to make sure that people can visit relatives in care homes safely. This survey can help Healthwatch Sheffield see what visiting is like for you, and whether more needs to be done to support you and your relative or friend to have meaningful contact. The closing date for the survey is 30th November 2020.

Storage Facilities Appeal by Sheffield Cycling 4 All

Sheffield Cycling 4 All, an inclusive cycling project run by Disability Sheffield, has launched a crowdfunding campaign to help pay for the relocation of their cycle storage containers in Hillsborough Park, which is undergoing various improvement projects. A relocation to elsewhere in the park will allow expansion of the project. The appeal hopes to raise £5,000 so please donate if you possibly can.

Universal Basic Income Plus Group Set Up

Campaigners for a universal basic income have set up a group which will hold regular meetings to discuss plans. UBILabDisability part of the UBI Lab Network will hold online meetings twice a month starting on Monday 23rd November at 10.30am. The first meeting will also be used to set the Lab’s agenda going forward.

Stretching Out at the Yoga 4 All Sessions

With another Coronavirus lockdown underway at the moment and seemingly nobody sure what the future holds, the need to relax is more important than ever. So those kind folks at Sheffield Cycling 4 All have set up an online yoga class – a form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost physical and mental wellbeing. Disability Sheffield has organised this event to explore the concerns of people from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds.Who can join?
Deaf and Disabled people who are from a BAME background. We also welcome people who do not consider themselves to be Disabled but have a substantial long-term impairment or condition (for example people with Learning Disabilities, Autism, Cancer, Depression, Sickle Cell Disease). Members of BAME community groups and organisations who work with Disabled People are also invited to attend.When?

Connecting Sheffield

Consultation on new transport projects in the city is starting soon. Sheffield City Council is launching a new project called ‘Connecting Sheffield’, which will focus on encouraging active travel and support the shift towards sustainable transport in and around the city.
