In a Spin-off series following the first year of marriage for the characters from ‘The A Word’ young couple Ralph and Katie face the domestic challenges faced by all newlyweds, but with the added fact that they have Down’s Syndrome. The series has been written by a team of disabled writers. Disability campaigners have welcomed the announcement of the new programme, calling it an “excellent example of disabled representation on and off screen”.

A BBC News journalist, who is investigating social care charges mainly involving disabled people, is looking for people to help with his work. Adam Eley is specifically looking to speak to people who have had debt collection procedures opened against them by their local authority as a result of being unable to pay social care charges. The coverage will bring maximum awareness to the issue.

The BBC is marking a quarter century since the Disability Discrimination Act was passed with a series of themed programming, including drama, discussion, documentary and news items.However, the programmes should not be seen entirely as a celebration of the DDA and further legislation, as it is agreed by many of the participants that work still needs to be done to try and ensure equality for disabled people.

The BBC Red Button Teletext Service has been saved from switch off after the NFBUK and British Deaf Association handed in a petition to the Director General of the BBC.Disability Sheffield backed the petition along with 174 other organisations from across the UK including Age UK and the National Association of Deafened People (NADP).
