The Youth Voice and Influence Service, Community Youth Services, Sheffield City Council and My Pockets have joined forces to create an animation about Hate Crime. They wanted to make something that stepped away from being negative or frightening. What could be further from hate than a bouncy ball?

We all have Human Rights but people with learning disabilities and autism, can be unaware of their rights and abused more easily. Sheffield Voices, our learning disability self-advocacy group, have made a new video that calls for change because their human rights are not being upheld. Their video will be featured at the end of Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust’s conference today to mark International Human Rights Day.

We know that a lot of people who have been shielding are very anxious about opening up so we worked with Greg Fell, Director of Public Health at Sheffield City Council, to come up with some guidance both for shielders and also for the rest of society. Learning disabilities self-advocacy group Sheffield Voices has called for change and expressed anger in a video after an autism and learning disability unit was closed to new admissions . A CQC report identified that The Firshill Rise unit was not safe or effective and people experienced harm because of a lack of protection, abusive incidents, restraint and seclusion.

From 8 August face coverings need to be worn in additional indoor settings, unless you are exempt from wearing a face covering. We’re reminding you that Greg Fell, Director of Public Health in Sheffield, in his July video ,explained the importance of wearing face coverings correctly with continued social distancing and hygiene. He emphasised that the most important ways to control the pandemic are to stay at home if you have symptoms, keep your distance where possible, wash your hands frequently and wear a face covering in enclosed public spaces if you are able to do so.
