    Covid-19, Disablism And Systemic Racism Survey

    The Commission on COVID-19, Disablism and Systemic Racism was launched to explore how the worst impacts of COVID-19 have fallen on Disabled people, and even more so on Disabled people from Black, Asian, and minoritised ethnic groups. It seeks the evidence needed to hold the UK government to account over failings during the pandemic, and in building solutions for transformative and sustainable change in social care.The deadline for submissions is Friday 30 September.

    The Sheffield Race Equality Commission was established in Summer 2020 by Sheffield City Council to assess the nature, extent, causes and impact of racism and race inequality in Sheffield and to make recommendations for tackling them. Its interim report concludes that the state of racial equality in the city remains a significant problem for Sheffield.

    Sheffield REC Public Meeting

    Sheffield’s Race Equality Commission will hold its first public hearing on Tuesday 8 December from 10am to 4.30pm to examine evidence of racial inequalities within health and healthcare in Sheffield.The hearings will be thematic with the first focusing on ‘Health’. The Commission will hear from speakers from across the healthcare industry on their experiences of racial inequalities in the sector and what they’re doing to tackle the issue. The meeting will take place online and members of the public are invited to watch via Zoom.

    Black Lives Matter: Part of the Solution Focus Group

    At Disability Sheffield we appreciate actions speak louder than words. It is not enough for us to say we support the Black Lives Matter movement, instead we must demonstrate our commitment to making sure we are not part of the problem. We have started out on this journey by setting up a focus group to identify any racism in our organisation so this can be correctly addressed.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
