    Are you autistic, have a learning disability or severe mental illness? Do you want to take part in a physical activity group or class but feel too nervous to go on your own?     Our Healthy Living and Physical Activity Project network has now launched their free toolkit online to help make community healthy living and physical activity groups and facilities more accessible to adults with autism, learning disabilities and severe mental illness. The project also supports mystery shoppers to try out activities and give feedback.

    Active Together

    Through Get Yourself Active’s ‘Active Together’ project, disabled people talk about why physical activity is important to them and how they have been supported by their care/support worker.The videos can be used as teaching resources in the social care and work sector to break down barriers and support disabled people to be active in the ways they want.

    We are looking to recruit a co-ordinator to lead our exciting new project, in partnership with Sheffield CCG, working with community groups to increase their capacity to support people with severe mental illness, a learning disability and/or autism to access healthy living and physical activity opportunities in their local communities.The closing date is 9am Monday 16th August.

    Move More Strategy Launch

    Sheffield’s Move More Month 2021 is being recognised this June with the launch of a new physical activity strategy that sets out a clear vision and mission .The renewed approach comes in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has seen health inequalities get worse in Sheffield with the most disadvantaged areas and communities being disproportionately affected.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
