    ROFA Conference Goes Ahead Online

The Reclaiming Our Futures Alliance online conference saw calls for non-user-led organisations to ‘move over’ and make way for Disabled People’s User Led Organisations. It also highlighted the work of ROFA’s independent living campaign group, which is pushing for a new independent living strategy, enshrined in UK law and based on article 19 of the UN disability convention. It aims to include an end to compulsory admissions to psychiatric hospitals and forced treatment and community treatment orders.

  • Uniting our Voices & Defending our Rights

Disability Sheffield helped organise the annual “Reclaiming Our Futures Alliance” national conference in Sheffield for the second year running. We feel it’s important for local disabled people and disabled people’s organisations (DPOs) to feel part of the collective voice of disabled people and we value the idea behind ROFA where disabled people can unite and defend our rights together. The conference was entitled ‘Uniting our Voices & Defending our Rights’ and explored how we can defend and progress disabled people’s vision of rights, inclusion and equality.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
