  • What a Week for Learning Disability

    What a Week for Learning Disability

    Learning Disability Week runs from 17th – 23rd June 2024, with the theme ‘Do You See Me?’. The annual campaign aims to raise awareness of the lives of people with a learning disability and ensure they are a visible, valued part of society. Our Self advocacy group, Sheffield Voices is celebrating all their achievements with a picnic on Tuesday as they head towards their Big Voice Event on Access at the Town Hall on Friday 21 June from 10am to 3pm.     What About Me?

    We are working in partnership with Sunderland People First and the University of Sheffield to carry out this research project . We are trying to find people with a learning disability and carers who look after people with a learning disability, who do not have a social care budget or any formal support. We can give you vouchers worth £45, to interview you online about what your lives look like.

  • You Speak We Listen

    You Speak We Listen

    Sheffield Voices, is out and about in the community over the next few months hosting ‘You Speak We Listen’ events. They want to bring together people who identify with having a learning disability and people who identify with being Autistic to come along and share your stories about what your lives look like and what changes you think services need to be making. The first event is at Westfield School on 24th October from 10am – 12.30pm.

  • Voices on the Cost of Living will be Heard

    Voices on the Cost of Living will be Heard

    Following a successful funding application for South Yorkshire’s Community Foundation Cost of Living Grant, Sheffield Voices, will be facilitating two Cost of Living outreach sessions in the North and South of the city and four group sessions in community spaces .The sessions will focus on listening to concerns, producing accessible resources and helping people save money on food, heating and other bills during Winter 2023/24.

    First Past the Post Wins for Sheffield Voices

    It’s Absurde !! Our self advocacy group for adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, Sheffield Voices, is all a flutter after scooping £20,000 in the Ebor Festival Community sweepstake at York Races last weekend, which rewards charitable and community organisations across Yorkshire and acknowledges their hard work within the community.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
