Latest News for Carers and Covid Vaccinations

Latest News for Carers and Covid Vaccinations

Sheffield Carers Centre has released its latest newsletter. The issue includes topics including a free wellbeing session, a free ‘mind plan’ , the forthcoming census, self-isolation for carers, dementia activity packs and PPE. It also contains information for unpaid carers on getting the Covid-19 vaccine.

The good news is that the particular circumstances of carers has been recognised by the Government and carers have been included as a specific group in the vaccination roll-out.

Carers who were flagged on their GP system and carers in receipt of or entitled to Carers Allowance, will be receiving their letters inviting them to book appointments, if they haven’t already.

Since publication the Department for Health and Social Care has just confirmed that unpaid carers in England can register for their COVID-19 vaccine online if they are the primary carer of someone who is clinically vulnerable (see definition on p10/11).

If you are the primary carer of someone who is clinically vulnerable and over 18, you can use the National Booking Service at www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination or call 119. There are a few questions to answer to see if you are eligible.

For further information and support see Sheffield Carers Centre’s website page Covid-19 vaccination for carers section.

Carers can also get up to date information by following Sheffield Carers Centre on Facebook or Twitter. You can also receive the monthly newsletter by registering here call teh Carers Centre on 0114 278 8942 to ask any questions.

Carers UK is frequently updating their vaccine FAQs page which you can find here here. This page also contains the answers to lots of commonly asked questions about the vaccination programme across the UK. You can refer to this
government guidance for more information.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
