Over the years, our service has supported disabled people living in Sheffield by providing information and advocacy support on a range of issues, enabling them to live their own lives.

Spectrum Theatre Company, an integrated group which contains both autistic and neurotypical talents has launched its Christmas show – a musical entitled Sterling Silver, which is set in Sheffield almost a century ago and tells the story of how buffer girl, Lizzie, and Daniel, heir to Thornton’s cutlery, fall for each other at a time when such things aren’t supposed to happen.

Through the four bus partnerships in the county, local bus operators are seeking views and feedback on proposed changes including improvements in service frequency along key corridors and improved access to employment.The consultation runs until Sunday 9 December 2018 and gives you the chance to tell local bus operators what you think before changes are implemented in February 2019

Disability Sheffield, with funding from Skills for Care is co-producing a ‘How to Guide’ for supervision and appraisals in health and social care in Sheffield. Over the next few weeks, starting on Friday 23 November, we are holding a number of workshops to find out peoples’ views and experiences about person centred approaches and how they can be put into workplace supervision and appraisals. The workshops are mainly for front line workers and managers in health and social care in Sheffield. One of the workshops on Monday 3 December from 10.30am to 12.30pm at The Circle is specifically for people who employ personal assistants and others who have an interest in this area.

The Money Advice Service, an independent organisation set up to help people make the most of their money by giving free, impartial advice, have launched this new guide detailing how to make the most of your Universal Credit payments in England and Wales. Their guides are a good starting point for thinking about money in a number of situations.

Voluntary Action Sheffield is hoping to strengthen and diversify their board and are keen to appoint people who are actively involved with Sheffield’s voluntary and community sector or social enterprise sector. They would particularly welcome applicants who have a disability and/or who are from Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic groups. The deadline for applying is 5pm on 14th December 2018.

Keeping Families In Mind is an innovative new service set up by the Sheffield branch of the mental health charity Mind. It is funded by the Ministry of Defence, and provides therapeutic support to families living in South Yorkshire of serving military personnel.
