TV sci-fi series Doctor Who has taken a small but significant step towards disability rights – by installing a ramp so wheelchair users can get into the famous Tardis.
Actor Ruth Madeley who has spina bifida and uses a wheelchair and plays scientific advisor Shirley Anne Bingham on the show says to Tennant’s Doctor “At last, you’ve finally caught up with the 21st century.”

So much anger and hate is directed against LGBTQ+ people. SAYiT has created this film with young people in Sheffield who are LGBTQ+. They discovered in their conversations that acceptance was often found in small moments shared between family and friends.

Shani has driven change by establishing Diversability, the Asian Woman Festival, and the Asian Disability Network, all dedicated to combating global social inequality.

One of Sheffield’s most popular museums has now become more accessible thanks to the installation of a Changing Places toilet. The new addition at Weston Park Museum is funded by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities with support from Sheffield City Council and in association with Muscular Dystrophy UK.

Sheffield has a new Adult Autism Support Hub offering free support to autistic people, aged 16 and above, and their (informal) carers and families. The team is able to provide helpful information and advice and support you to connect with local community groups. You can also get involved in their ongoing co-production activities to help design the service.
