It’s Absurde !! Our self advocacy group for adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, Sheffield Voices, is all a flutter after scooping £20,000 in the Ebor Festival Community sweepstake at York Races last weekend, which rewards charitable and community organisations across Yorkshire and acknowledges their hard work within the community.

Sheffield Council are keen to know what your experience of using their new ‘Have Your Say Sheffield’ website has been and whether any changes are needed to make it more user friendly, effective and accessible for digital engagement with communities. Their survey closes on Monday 28 August.

Emosi is Sheffield’s only purpose built Transcultural Therapy Centre for children aged 2-12 years, aimed at giving children with emotional and behavioural challenges the very best start in life. Emosi, which means ‘emotion’ in a number of different languages, is a safe place where children are supported as they transition through developmental stages at their own pace in a child-led environment.

People working across adult social care are being encouraged to complete a new national Government survey which aims, for the first time, to capture the experiences of those working in adult social care, to support improvements over time. The survey is open to people working in any care-related role across all settings in adult social care, including personal assistants and employees in local authority adult social care departments.

Sheffield City Council is holding workshops at various times and for different target groups on September 12th (MS teams) and 13th (face to face) to capture your thoughts on developing their new Technology Enabled Care (TEC) Service Delivery Model. The workshops will feature key information captured from the Focus Groups and share an early design of the new service.

It’s about applying for a Personal Independence Payment and what to do if your application is turned down.

Do you know an organisation or individual that’s working hard to achieve disability equality? Then you may be interested in entering them for an award to recognise their good work. You can nominate people and organisations. Disability charity Scope is running the awards with several categories including ones for influencers, journalists, role models, campaigns and accessible products. Nominations for the 2024 awards will close on 6 October 2023.

Disability Sheffield’s learning disability and Autism group, Sheffield Voices, is holding their next ‘We Speak You Listen’ event at Hillsborough Arena on 18th August from 10am-12noon including tea and coffee. This month we will be talking about what self advocacy is and what people want for overnight breaks.
