The Knowledge Bank are a group of people who have all had social workers and they work with the social work team at The University of Sheffield to represent the views of people with lived experience. The team are reviewing what they teach on the course and has asked The Knowledge Bank to find out what people think makes a good social worker. And to do this they want to hear from people in the South Yorkshire area who also have experience of social workers.

Are you deaf and into acting? If so you could benefit from a new course being held this summer. BSL Acting Intensive is described as ‘a fun, practical and intensive week of deaf-led actor training.’ The five-day course is created by the Royal Central School Of Speech and Drama and Deafinitely Theatre in collaboration with Graeae Theatre Company.

We are trying to find people with a learning disability and carers who look after people with a learning disability, who do not have a social care budget or any formal support. We can give you vouchers worth £45, to interview you online about what your lives look like.

Our inclusive cycling project, Sheffield Cycling 4 All, is peddling into Spring offering free all-ability cycling sessions to give disabled people and people with long-term health conditions more opportunity to ride a wide array of cycles in safe surroundings. With over 30 different trikes and bikes which can be adapted to you, the sessions at various venues are run by a trained session leader and a range of volunteers.

High Street retail company Primark has launched a new collection of lingerie to help people who may have difficulty using ‘normal’ fastenings and fabrics. They say that each piece has been carefully co-designed with technical specialists, disability advocates and disabled people.

The Disability Action Plan sets out the “actions the government will take to improve disabled people’s everyday lives and lays the foundations for longer-term change.” DRUK says the actions are weak – We need co-produced transformation as detailed in the Disabled People’s Manifesto, incorporation of the UNCRPD into domestic law, an end to the social care crisis and the inhumane DWP policies and processes.
