    If you care for or support a person living with dementia a number of free carer group sessions to support you are available across the city, running for 12 weeks.The first 6 weeks explore dementia, giving carers/supporters a greater understanding of the impact dementia can have on the person they care for. The final 6 weeks look at how to support yourself as a carer of someone living with dementia.

    Autism Peer Support is where autistic people use the lessons learned from their own experiences to support other autistic people. Skills for Care are holding 12 online/virtual meetings in December 2021 and January 2022 for autistic people, families and other key stakeholders to explore what capabilities are needed for Autism Peer Support.Participants can be paid £15 per hour.

    LIstening Line Still There for You

    Sheffield Mind’s Listening Line service has expanded its remit and can now offer a listening service to all people over 18 years of age. If you’re feeling anxious about Covid-19 and what happens now, or you have concerns about the vaccine, or you’re experiencing loneliness or isolation and you’d like to talk about it, you can call and speak to a friendly operator who’ll listen and where appropriate, give advice about local services which you might like to approach for support.

If they are a European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) or Swiss citizen, they and their family will need to apply to get settled status before 30 June 2021.     Sheffield City Council has commissioned the Endorphins Group to supply a fully funded key worker service to assist clients aged 18+ who are unemployed or economically inactive.Lead Worker Paul says “Our staff have worked with people who have been held back because others have seen their disability and not their potential. We believe in challenging society’s stereotypes and supporting everyone to reach their goals and see just what they can do.”

    Sheffield City Council Adult Social Care have collected together a range of information in an effort to support organisations providing care services in Sheffield.As well as a webpage for all the latest news and guidance relating to COVID-19 confidential helplines and apps are available.Sheffield City Council Adult Social Care explain that they “recognise the pressure that you are under as managers and the need you may have to talk things through with someone experienced in social care.”

    Fairer for Carers Campaign

    A group of ninety-three charities led by Carers UK submitted a joint letter to Work and Pensions Secretary Therese Coffey in July calling for urgent extra financial support to unpaid carers to ensure “they are supported during the Coronavirus crisis and beyond.” Carers UK says that “Despite the huge contribution they make, too many carers and their families face financial hardship. Taking on a caring role can result in sharp reductions in income for families, due to the extra costs associated with caring; these pressures are further exacerbated when people feel they have no choice but to leave paid work to provide care unpaid.The Coronavirus crisis has only compounded the difficulties many carers face “

    New Wellbeing Support Line for Young People in Sheffield

    A new support line has been launched to help young people with issues such as low mood, anxious thoughts and loneliness or challenges such as exam stress, relationship issues, bullying or isolation. Youth charity Sheffield Futures, NHS Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group and Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust have come together to create the support line for young people in the city aged 12–18 .

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
