The Homeless Survival Guide for South Yorkshire is designed as a ‘first port of call’ for anyone who is homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. It provides information on finding accommodation, food, health, other support and amenities in the Sheffield, Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham areas.

Changing Faces, which aims to support the 1.3 million people in the UK with a visible difference – a mark, scar or condition that makes them look out of the ordinary – have teamed up with children’s writing and mentoring centre Grimm and Co to hold a magical workshop between 4 and 6pm on Friday 4th June for 10 to 14 year olds living in the Yorkshire and The Humber area. It will take participants on a creative story-telling adventure, helping the young people to increase their resilience, confidence and self-esteem.

The Showroom has become Sheffield’s first deaf friendly cinema – with subtitled movies every Monday and now a deaf volunteer with knowledge of sign and oral language. Adele Johnston will be performing the role every Monday from now on. She can use either BSL (British Sign Language) or lip reading to help customers.

Sheffield City Council has released its report into adult social care for 2018 and say that although it has been ‘challenging’ due to a combination of financial cuts and increasing demand they are still making progress. It includes their ‘improvement plan’ for 2018-20.

The University of Sheffield is holding a ‘Living Library’ for its social work students and is looking for people with either particular life experiences or experiences of social work services to become a ‘book’ for the afternoon of Friday the 24th May 2019 ( and at future dates ) and share their story with a small group of about 5 or 6 social work students.

There has been an increase by more than 6,000% in complaints over assessments for disability benefits, shock new Government figures reveal, with a woman from Sheffield among those who have been forced to take action after cuts. Jennifer Jones had her benefits downgraded despite having ME, fibromyalgia and bipolar disorder.A week before a tribunal was to take place Jennifer was contacted by a DWP case manager who offered to restore her payment to their original levels.
