A Sheffield man living with dementia is appearing on the air with a mixture of music and help with knowing your rights. Howard Gordon has secured slots on Deepness Dementia Radio, an internet station, based on the Isle of Harris. The station features shows by and with people living with dementia. During May Howard is presenting a weekly two-hour rock show in support of World Rocks Against Dementia 2021.

The Government’s roadmap out of lockdown calendar moves onto a further stage today as part of the country’s slow easing out of Covid restrictions. This includes shops and indoor hospitality re-opening and up to 6 people or 2 households being able to meet indoors. From Tuesday 4 May, people living in care homes in England will not have to self-isolate if they leave the home to be in the garden of a relative or friend, or to visit outdoor spaces such as parks.Nicci Gerrard, from John’s Campaign, said the change of stance, announced by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), was “a chink of light for residents of care homes and their families, and a victory for all those people who have been eloquent in their campaign against the 14-day rule”.

There should be no barriers to voting for disabled people. Everyone should have the right to vote on their own and in secret. You have the right to support if you would like to vote. In their new report ‘Elections for Everyone’ the Electoral Commission is calling on the UK governments, political parties and those who run elections to make voting more accessible. At Disability Sheffield we’re concerned that some polling stations in Sheffield are not accessible.
