Sheffield Theatres is co-hosting three introductory courses for deaf and disabled people who are interested in pursuing careers in directing, producing and writing. The free courses are aimed at people right at the beginning of their careers, and no previous experience is necessary. The deadline for applications is 14 February 2022 .

If you fancy more fresh air and exercise you can get out into Sheffield parks and green spaces with Step out Sheffield’s weekly walks. All walks are completely free and led by trained Volunteer Walk Leaders. Many walks are wheels-friendly and most groups offer walks at different paces to make sure that everyone travels at a speed that is comfortable whatever your age or level of fitness. Guide and assistance dogs are welcome on all walks.

The Prime Minister has announced that England’s Plan B measures will end on Thursday January 27th including compulsory mask-wearing on public transport and in shops. Equality campaigners are calling on the Government to reverse their decision as many disabled and vulnerable people are still shielding at home and do not feel safe to go out.

South Yorkshire Police and the National Autistic Society have worked together to create an Autism Alert Photo ID Card to help the police and other emergency services workers communicate with autistic people more effectively. It is hoped that use of the card will help people with autism feel more comfortable in what could potentially be stressful or frightening situations. A free card is also available for people with a learning disability.

Working Win is a completely free service for people with physical or mental health conditions, and works with individuals to meet their employment goals, to find, stay and thrive in work.

Two severely disabled men have won a legal challenge over the Department Of Work And Pensions’ failure to provide adequate transitional payments to protect them and others from a loss of income following their move on to Universal Credit. The DWP is found to have discriminated against the pair when it didn’t compensate them the full payment of around £180 a month difference in the payments on legacy benefits.

If so you may want to share your experiences and help medical professionals sort out strategies to help others.Project Echo, based at St Luke’s Hospice in Sheffield, has set up a group exploring the impact of long covid, and how and where people can get the right support. The next session will take place on Thursday 27th January from 1.30 to 3pm
