Get a Priority Service and Get Smart

Did you know that if you’re disabled you can go on a Priority Services Register for water as well as for energy companies? It’s easy to join and offers help such as large print, audio or Braille copies of bills, prioriy support during planned works or any interruption of your supply, help with meter reading or to manage your account under the nominee scheme.

Information about the register and how to apply to be on it is on the Yorkshire Water website here.

South Yorkshire self-advocacy group Speakup are working with Yorkshire Water to encourage people with learning disabilites and autism, who live in Yorkshire, to register . For more information in Easy Read go to their Prioritise My Water page.

Speakup is also supporting the rollout of smart meters with Smart Energy GB and National Energy Action . They help individuals and families keep control of their energy bills by supporting people to find ways to reduce energy waste around the home. All you have to do is call your energy company and check if you can get a smart meter. Find out more in Easy Read on Speakup’s Smart Meters are for Me page

Speakup would be very interested to hear both positive and negative experiences in regards to getting a smart meter through their energy company, and will tell your stories to Smart Energy GB and National Energy Action.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.
