Sheffield Mind’s Listening Line service has expanded its remit and can now offer a listening service to all people over 18 years of age. If you’re feeling anxious about Covid-19 and what happens now, or you have concerns about the vaccine, or you’re experiencing loneliness or isolation and you’d like to talk about it, you can call and speak to a friendly operator who’ll listen and where appropriate, give advice about local services which you might like to approach for support.

Applications are now open for a free online creative writing development course funded by Arts Council England. The course is entitled ‘Writing Happiness – Writing Back Joyfully’ and is run by and for D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent writers, including people with long term mental health problems and chronic illnesses. The Government has issued new guidance on the COVID-19 response in an Autumn and Winter Plan for England. Plan A introduces an enhanced vaccination programme offering a first dose of vaccine to 12-15 year olds and a booster dose to individuals who received vaccination in Phase 1 of the COVID-19 vaccination programme. If the data suggests the NHS is likely to come under unsustainable pressure, the Government has prepared a Plan B.

The BBC has produced an article entitled Social care changes at a glance covering what is being proposed and how the changes will be funded.The social care reform proposals do not kick in for another two years.

This briefing paper by the Institute for Public Policy Research examines the impact of the pandemic, following decades of increasing regional inequalities, on the lives of disabled people across the north of England.Their conclusions emphasise that now is the time for policymakers to act and ensure that disabled people have equal access to opportunity across the North and the rest of the UK.

Action group Disabled People Against Cuts is inviting you to to make a big noise about the £20 cut to Universal Credit coming in September and the reintroduction of sanctions and conditionality returning in October in its latest protest against Government policies under the hashtag @AudioRiot. The planned protest will be at Westminster on Tuesday September 28th, but local branches , like DPAC Sheffield will also be taking part in a nationwide version on the Saturday September 25th.
