There is no evidence that dementia affects people with learning disabilities differently to how it affects other people. However, the early stages are more likely to be missed or misinterpreted. Good to know that the Alzheimer’s Society has produced these Easy Read dementia factsheets.

Sheffield Health and Care Partnership is encouraging as many people as possible across the city to have a “what matters to you” conversation with someone on Thursday 9th June as part of an International Person Centred Campaign.The campaign organisers claim that having better, more meaningful conversations with others about what matters to them, helps people feel more confident, more motivated and more likely to achieve their ambitions.

The Action Network has set up a campaign urging disabled people to write to your MPs about the cost of living crisis. It calls for the government to help disabled people survive the current price increases and introduce new policies. The campaign is sponsored by Inclusion London and aims to go nationwide.

A fun and friendly group which organises leisure events for disabled people has restarted bigger and better following the loosening up of Covid-19 regulations. The ‘Leisure Time’ sessions take place on Friday mornings from 10.30-12.30 at Concord Sports Centre and costs £3 for participants with their carers admitted free.

Members of performing arts organisation Under The Stars will be acting up at the end of this month and the start of next – with two separate shows at the Crucible Theatre.The Sheffield based charity uses the performing arts to enhance the lives of people with learning disabilities and/or autism. ‘Freedonia’ takes place on Tuesday May 31 and ‘The Many Journeys of Maria Rossini’ the following evening, both in the Studio Theatre starting at 7pm.
