Individual Employer and PAs: Coronavirus FAQs

Our new information sheet for individual employers and PAs contains guidance based on some of the questions we are being asked at Disability Sheffield by people who employ their own PAs. The outbreak of Coronavirus is a public health issue and as such certain precautions need to be taken by both employer and employee and both parties need to be aware in these difficult circumstances of their employment duties and rights.

It’s important to us that we keep you up to date with what’s been happening over the last few weeks at Disability Sheffield. In response to the COVID19 outbreak we have made some changes to the services we provide so that we can better respond to the needs of disabled people we work with. All our staff are working remotely from home to keep in touch with our clients, provide the latest information relating to the Coronavirus and offer some new and practical support for disabled people in Sheffield including people who employ a PA for their social care.

Zoom into Sheffield Voices Coffee Mornings

Do you have a learning disability or autism? Sheffield Voices, our learning disability and autism group, is offering a space where people can connect with each other, have some fun and find out information. Sheffield Voices Coffee Mornings take place every Tuesday and Thursday at 11am until 12pm, that’s for one hour on “ZOOM”, which is an online meeting space.

Coronavirus Information and Support

At Disability Sheffield, as everywhere, our focus in the past week has been the impact of the Coronavirus and social isolation and distancing. For us as an organisation, for our staff and volunteers and more importantly for our clients and all disabled people in Sheffield. We are putting plans into place and having discussions with the council in terms of support for people who access social care which we’ll share with you as soon as we can. There’s so much information coming in day by day that we’ve decided to set up a Coronavirus Information and Support webpage where you can access key websites as we hear of them to hopefully find some of the answers you’re looking for.

New Cycling Sessions at SC4A
09 March 2020
Sheffield Cycling 4 All has reluctantly decided to cancel ALL cycling sessions until further notice due to the coronavirus. We apologise for any disappointment this may cause . Thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund and Sport England , Sheffield Cycling 4 All, our accessible and inclusive cycling project, is stepping up a gear and is offering new groups for people with specific health conditions or impairments at Hillsborough Park ( next to the tennis courts at the bottom of the park ). Sessions start at the end of March/beginning of April and the cost is just £4.

SC4A Calls For Your Votes

Sheffield Cycling 4 All, our accessible and inclusive cycling project, is hoping to have its funding wishes granted – and is looking for your vote to help it achieve this aim. SC4A is thrilled to have been selected for the voting stage of the TransPennine Express Transform Grants which supports community projects that seek to tackle/promote social inclusion and improve the environment. Voting closes at midnight on Sunday 22 March 2020.

Join Us at the Festival of Debate

The Festival of Debate is back for 2020 and we’re excited to announce that Disability Sheffield will be hosting two thought-provoking events. The first event on Thursday 16 April will debate “Has the Care Act given us any choice?” whilst the second event on Monday 27 April debates the effects of austerity on disabled people. Both events are free to attend but please book a place.

Free Fitness Day Pass for Disability Sheffield Users

Working in partnership with Sheffield International Venues ( SIV ), we are providing FREE fitness passes for our users so that we can improve the fitness experience for disabled people across the city. We need your help to do this! Simply visit “Free Day Pass”, to get your pass and use it! You’ll be asked to provide some feedback through your email to let SIV know about your experience.

BBC Red Button Teletext Saved from Switch Off
07 February 2020
The BBC Red Button Teletext Service has been saved from switch off after the NFBUK and British Deaf Association handed in a petition to the Director General of the BBC.Disability Sheffield backed the petition along with 174 other organisations from across the UK including Age UK and the National Association of Deafened People (NADP).

T-shirts On Sale To Help PIP Recording Appeal

If you want to really show your support for DPAC Sheffield and their campaign to ensure Personal Independence Payments interviews are recorded you can now get it on your chest. The local branch of Disabled People Against Cuts has now had t-shirts printed bearing the slogan ‘Put PIP assessments on the record’ which you can buy for £10, or £13 if you need it posted. Money raised will go towards their crowdfunder to buy equipment which can be lent out to disabled people applying for the benefit
