Submit your Artwork for Mental Health Day Exhibition

Sheffield Flourish is inviting entries for their annual five-day art exhibition in October as part of World Mental Health Day. The theme is ‘urban nature’, and everyone is welcome to submit 2D artwork in any medium – especially people with a lived experience of mental health and those who work in support services, for a display in the Moor Market. The closing date is 31 August.

Technology Offer For Visually Impaired Children

The Guide Dogs charity, which offers a wide variety of services for people with sight loss, has set up a new initiative to help visually-impaired children to learn and to become more independent. The Tech For All initiative supplies devices with excellent accessibility features and the organisation is also providing online guides and tutorials.

Chilypep Children’s Wellbeing Practitioners

Some staff at Chilypep , a youth empowerment charity based in Sheffield ,are training to be CWPs and are now open to referrals for children and young people in Sheffield and Barnsley who may be experiencing low level anxiety or low mood.Chilypep have produced an information Letter for Children and Young People explaining the offer of 6-10 sessions of low intensity CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy).

South Yorkshire Autism Fayre

The line-up has been announced for this year’s South Yorkshire Autism Fayre from 12th-14th September 2021, which like last year will be held virtually due to the recent pandemic and health and safety precautions. Among those taking part will be medical and legal experts and ‘kid speakers’ talking of their personal experience of either having autism themselves or having autistic siblings.

The UK charity Sibs has a ‘Sheffield Support Group’ that currently meets online.If you’re a parent Sibs also has information and tips for supporting young siblings with feelings, attention, and understanding disability or additional needs.

Can my PA Refuse to Wear a Mask?

The Independent Living Group, a UK wide membership organisation set up to support Individual Employers and their staff, has reported a lot of enquiries from individual employers and Direct Payment professionals about the continued use of PPE since the relaxation of restrictions in England on 19th July. In response to this ILG Support have put together a new advice note for individual employers explaining that in some cases, individual employers won’t be quite so ready to relax the rules.

Social Club Offers Health and Care

A new social cafe and lunch club has been set up by SACMHA Health and Social Care, a Sheffield-based organisation which aims to provide culturally sensitive help, particularly to those who feel marginalised or who struggle to access mainstream services. It will take place at the SADACCA building on The Wicker, every Thursday from August 5th.

Woman Wins Battle Over BSL At Covid Briefings

A deaf woman from Yorkshire won a claim against the government after a judge found a lack of sign language at two Covid briefings “served to disempower, to frustrate and to marginalise”.Ms Rowley launched the court action against Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove in relation to the “data briefings” on 21 September and 12 October 2020.

Sheffield Voices is proud to announce we have secured funding from the Arts Council to run a self-advocacy drama group, Pyjama Drama. We are on the lookout for people with a learning disability who want to join us to come and make theatre about their experiences of being in lockdown during Covid.
