Following its closure during the pandemic, Mobile Sheffield has now been relaunched with a new base, moving to Sheffield BID’s Surrey Street location next to The Winter Gardens. The scheme offers reliable products to ensure people with walking difficulties or disabilities can access shops and local amenities. No blue badge is needed but you must book in advance.

This year’s Carers Rights Day campaign on Thursday 25 November will focus on raising awareness of the rights that unpaid carers have. The pandemic has had a massive impact on the lives of carers, affecting access to services, the ability to juggle work and care and much more. That’s why it’s more important than ever that carers are aware of what they have the right to.

Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust provide a range of mental health, learning disability and substance misuse services to the people of Sheffield.The Trust is delivering a series of human rights training for their staff and are seeking people with lived experience of their service to coproduce and co-deliver the training modules. The lived experience roles are available as paid or volunteer roles.

DPAC Sheffield, the local branch of national organisation Disabled People Against Cuts is taking part in a campaign calling for Better Buses in our region. The campaign brings together people and groups who want to see bus services improved for the benefit of passengers and communities. They also want a return to public control of buses in the area, with a link to a petition on the subject.

Sheffield City Council has received funding and has partnered with the energy company E.ON to deliver the Green Homes Grant to improve the energy efficiency of homeowners’ households for free. This will help make your home cheaper to heat and reduce its ‘carbon footprint’. You do not need to be an E.ON customer to apply. Please note the scheme has funding for a limited number of installations only. It is operating on a first come, first served basis and if you are interested you should apply as soon as possible.

A new study on personal support, gender and sexuality is looking for participants. If you’d like to take part you must be aged between 18 and 30, live in England and have over 6 months experience of managing your support arrangements. You do not have to have a PA right now. The study asks how young disabled adults make decisions about hiring personal assistants, and whether gender or sexuality (of a PA or individual employer) shape those decisions.

Have your say on where you vote. We reported earlier this year about the local campaign for accessible polling stations. Sheffield City Council is reviewing polling districts and want to make sure polling stations are in the right locations and have suitable facilities to make voting as easy as possible for everyone.They have already made some proposals and would like your feedback by 30 November.
