New guidance stressing that employers are allowed to reserve jobs for disabled people should help narrow the disability employment gap, say the Disabled People’s Organisations that asked for the legal advice to be published. The guidance, ‘Using Protected Characteristics in Recruitment’ is now available for employers from ACAS.

Workplaces are still not as inclusive for disabled people as they need to be and employees are still waiting too long for the adjustments they need to reduce or remove the barriers they experience in their jobs, a new survey by the Business Disability Forum shows.

A report in the Guardian about social care observes that rising English social care costs force many disabled people into debt. Svetlana Kotova, director of campaigns at Inclusion London says that making disabled people pay for the care they need is effectively a tax on disability.

Customers on prepayment meters have until 30th June 2023 to redeem their £400 vouchers under the energy bills support scheme.

Connected Worlds is one of the community enterprises supported by Sheffield Flourish, running art-based courses to connect people and provide a creative space for them to tell and transform their stories of everyday life. During June and July they are running free creative one to one sessions in person or online for people affected by suicide.

Skills for Care is working with the University of Leeds on a study trying to find out what resources Personal Assistants need to help them prevent pressure ulcers at home. The project is looking for personal assistants who support people with long term neurological conditions in the community , who are willing to take part in a face-to-face focus group meeting in Leeds on the 4th of July.
