Buddy Up to Get Active

Buddy Up to Get Active

Do you want to help people with a learning disability, severe mental illness or autistic people to get more active? Can you spare a few hours a week either on a Monday or Tuesday to attend an activity with a disabled person? Can you travel around Sheffield on public transport? If so, we would love to hear from you!

You might go to a walking group, a zumba class, chairobics, or another fitness session with an adult who has been referred to our service.

You will do this with the same person over a few weeks, offering them short term support to get active. You can be matched with as many or as few people as you wish. We would ask you to expect to be available to volunteer for at least six months.

Your expenses will be paid, and you will be given training and ongoing support.

We won’t be asking you to drive, do personal care, go to other appointments with people, or go inside anyone’s home.

This is a great opportunity to support people to Get Active who might otherwise not do so. it will be a rewarding experience where you will be a valued volunteer for Disability Sheffield. You will learn about disabilities, develop your skills, meet new people, and discover different areas and communities in Sheffield.

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

Very good presentation, brave of the speakers to tell their stories and had a very high impact - feedback from Mate/Hate Crime presentation and video session at Safeguarding Working Together Conference
