The Alliance For Inclusive Education (ALLFIE) has launched a questionnaire which aims to find out the views of parents and education professionals about Accessibility Plans and whether they are effective in supporting disabled pupils’ inclusion at school. The survey closes at the end of February.

Walking for Purpose will be launching its 7th block of walks on Tuesday 15 January 2019 delivering the project in Parson Cross and Shiregreen for the first time. Walking for Purpose offers jobseekers the opportunity to gain valuable skills and training that employers want, whilst being active with a gentle walk.

Local organisation Healthwatch Sheffield is set to offer the public the chance to have their say and help shape implementation of the plan.

Sheffield Carers Centre is holding a free workshop on Thursday February 7th, from 10.30am to 2.30pm to make carers more aware of their legal rights and enable them to plan campaigns. The workshop will cover what people are entitled to under the Care Act 2014, how to plan a campaign and influence local decision makers and how to use traditional and social medias to bring about the change you want to see.

A petition has been set up by a Sheffield citizen to protest at discrimination against disabled drivers in the city’s major new roads upgrading scheme, claiming that ‘Streets Ahead’ have resurfaced on street parking zones across Sheffield but have not included disabled bays. Disabled adults, children and carers should be able to shop locally, meet friends and support local businesses. Without “disabled bays”, this makes it difficult and is discriminatory. Hallam Barbell, an Olympic Weightlifting and Strength Training Club based in Sheffield, is now offering a disability-inclusive programme and has a para power bench which allows disabled people to train competitively. It is an official British Weightlifting affiliated club, with an ambition to make Sheffield stronger: physically, mentally, emotionally and socially.

Skills for Care are working with Skills for Health, the National Autistic Society and Opening Minds Consultancy to develop a ‘core capabilities framework’ about autism. They are holding 2 co-production sessions in Sheffield on January 21st for paid staff who support autistic people ( AM ) and for people with lived experience of autism ( PM ).Skills for Care will use what you tell them to shape the new framework so that public services can ensure their staff deliver their services in the way that autistic people need. It will also help services to train their staff properly.

Project Chainge, a new initiative from cycling podcast The HKT Podcast, aims to raise £2,000 to buy specially adapted bikes to support children and adults with various difficulties and disabilities for Sheffield Cycling 4 All and the Mental Health Cycling Project.
