Waiting Well for an Autism Assessment

Waiting Well for an Autism Assessment

Are you waiting for an autism assessment, test or treatment or caring for someone who is?

NHS England says that adults waiting for an autism assessment should be given support packages to help them ‘wait well’. It is unclear if autistic adults want the support packages, and if they do, what they should look like and what the content should be.

The Sheffield Autism Research Lab wants to ask diagnosed autistic adults and their carers about a support package to help people to wait well for their autism assessments in the future.

This work is led by Dr Lauren Powell, a lecturer in Psychology and Education at the University of Sheffield, and a late diagnosed autistic woman with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) with lived experience of an NHS autism waitlist.

Dr Powell is looking for:

• Five adults who have received an autism diagnosis from the NHS within the past five years
and
• Two carers of adults who have received an autism diagnosis from the NHS within the past five years

This is a paid opportunity and anyone interested is invited to an online meeting about this at 2.15-3.45pm on Wednesday 12th February, 2025.

More information and how to apply is in Dr Powell’s Invitation Letter

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
