    Putting PIP Assessments On The Record

    Campaigners calling for compulsory recording of Personal Independence Payments assessments have taken matters into their own hands – by loaning out equipment to disabled people who want to get theirs taped. DPAC Sheffield, the local branch of national organisation Disabled People Against Cuts organised a crowdfunding appeal to purchase equipment and raised enough to buy two sets, although they are now hoping to buy more.The service is backed by and was launched at Disability Sheffield’s office at The Circle in Sheffield city centre. The first disabled person to use the equipment was a Disability Sheffield volunteer.

    Visiting Hours at Sheffield Hospitals

    Sheffield Teaching Hospitals ( STH ) is evaluating their visiting hours and running a survey to collect the views of inpatients and visitors. STH moved from set visiting hours to flexible visiting between 8am to 8pm last year, and want to find out how this has affected patients and their visitors.

    Lacking Parking Bays in Your Area?

    Anne-Marie Marshall complained to Sheffield City Council and successfully campaigned for parking bays for blue badge holders, in her area of Crookes. So much so that the Council has asked her to help them identify where bays are needed. Anne-Marie is inviting you to contact her if you live in an area where there are on street parking bays that don’t have bays for blue badge holders so that she can let the Council know.

    Reclaiming Our Futures Alliance (ROFA) is an alliance of Disabled People and their User Led Organisations in England who have joined together to defend disabled people’s rights and campaign for an inclusive society. ROFA is consulting members on their Disabled People’s Manifesto and Disabled People’s Demands for the First 100 days of the new Government. The deadline for responses is Thursday, 31st October 2019 if you would like to comment.

    Join In The City's Big Conversation

    Sheffield City Council wants to hear from as many people as possible, of all ages and backgrounds, from every part of Sheffield, about the issues that affect you, your communities and your city. The Big City Conversation will be a chance to tell the council (and partners who work with them) about the things you need, the things that affect you, and how you feel you can influence decisions around these issues.     People with a learning disability ( and/or autism ) are entitled to free Annual Health Checks from a doctor but not many people are aware of this provision including doctors and health and social care providers supporting people with a learning disability. Skills for Care are carrying out a survey to try to identify the reasons why people aren’t getting their annual health check and what can be done to improve uptake.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
