This week marks the launch of “My Employment Plan”, a tool coproduced by people with lived experience and employment organisations across South Yorkshire. The plan helps a person and their employer talk about and agree on things that might help them both in the workplace, sometimes called ‘reasonable adjustments’.

Sheffield Travel Support (STS) has joined Disability Sheffield! STS is a paid for service that provides travel support to hundreds of people with learning disabilities each week. Regular customers have the same regular Travel Support Workers, helping them to build trusted relationships and to understand your needs and preferences better.

Rail passengers who need step free access at Dore and Totley Railway station are urged to book passenger assistance if travelling to or from the station during the period from the 25th March to 4th April 2024. This is because the new lifts will not be fully working for some, or all of this period.

Did you know that as an individual employer you can apply for funding from Skills for Care to train yourself and your personal assistant(s)? The deadline for applications is 5pm on Sunday 31 March 2024 and any training that you want to be funded must be started by 30 April 2024.

Disability Sheffield volunteer John Quinn ( pictured right ) has started to stage new moves in his writing career – with two of his plays being performed in the city soon. A short piece of his has been chosen for a night of new work to be held at Theatre Deli in Sheffield on Tuesday April 9th and a full-length work will be seen at Sheffield Theatres in the summer.

The Knowledge Bank are a group of people who have all had social workers and they work with the social work team at The University of Sheffield to represent the views of people with lived experience. The team are reviewing what they teach on the course and has asked The Knowledge Bank to find out what people think makes a good social worker. And to do this they want to hear from people in the South Yorkshire area who also have experience of social workers.

Are you deaf and into acting? If so you could benefit from a new course being held this summer. BSL Acting Intensive is described as ‘a fun, practical and intensive week of deaf-led actor training.’ The five-day course is created by the Royal Central School Of Speech and Drama and Deafinitely Theatre in collaboration with Graeae Theatre Company.
