The Sheffield Connect bus service relaunched on Monday the 8th of April. New vehicles all electric (standard buses), two routes, and longer operating hours and now completely free for everyone.
The Sheffield Connect bus service is one of the ways of ensuring better accessibility for Sheffield residents and outside visitors to all parts of the city centre. There are now two routes covering more of the city centre frequently.
On riding the new SC2 route as the first customer on Monday our Engagement and Policy Officer noted “the new vehicles have two wheelchair spaces which will maximise the ability to carry all who want to travel.”
The service also now runs an increased number of hours Monday to Saturday from 7am-7pm and core shopping hours on Sundays. Chair of Sheffield Transport 4 All stated “We are pleased to see increased hours of operation as raised by the group when giving feedback on the initial Sheffield Connect service.”

Background
This service is part of the city council’s response to the challenge delivered by Disability Sheffield, Sheffield Transport 4 All and the Access Liaison Group after the cut off of the city centre during the pandemic when all bus access ceased along Pinstone Street.
