Report Shows Level Of Deprivation in Sheffield

Sheffield is the 57th most deprived local authority in England says a new report – which counts rates of health and disability among its factors. The Indices Of Deprivation 2019 is the follow-up to similar reports from 2015 and 2010. Other factors considered are income, employment, education and training, barriers to housing and services, crime and the living environment.

Petition - Solve the Crisis in Social Care

This petition asks the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson and Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock to solve the crisis in Social Care,pointing out that this issue is just as important as Brexit, if not more so. Many of you will know that as well as the seven individual hubs that advise the Council, the Equality Hub Network also runs a number of intersectional/ cross-hub working groups which aim to get to grips with issues of common concern in the city. The Health Working Group meets quarterly and is in need of some new members, particularly as this is a major priority for nearly all the hubs and an extremely important area of work for the Council and city partners.

Plans To Improve Health And Wellbeing

The strategy includes a detailed plan for tackling health inequalities for people in the city who are worst off and have been disproportionately affected by continuing austerity.

Crowdfunding Campaign launched for Sheffield Cycling 4 All

Project Chainge, a new initiative from cycling podcast The HKT Podcast, aims to raise £2,000 to buy specially adapted bikes to support children and adults with various difficulties and disabilities for Sheffield Cycling 4 All and the Mental Health Cycling Project.

Disability Rights UK (DRUK) has summarised the key points of the Budget 2018 for disabled people if you wish to see an overview. As a ‘no deal Brexit’ is still a possibility next March’s Spring Statement could be upgraded to a full Budget – this could mean that some of the Budget 2018 proposals detailed could be amended.

Health and Care Services #SpeakUp Reports Published

In 2017, Healthwatch Sheffield launched #SpeakUp Small Grants aimed at local not for profit, third sector, voluntary or community groups, to enable them to run projects that help local people share their experiences of health and care services in Sheffield. DAWS Community Gym held an ‘Ampu Tea & Chat’ session to obtain feedback from service users at Northern General Hospital’s Mobility and Specialised Rehabilitation Centre.

However, it can cause severe illness and even death among vulnerable groups of people, including disabled people and people with a long term health condition. As we approach Winter, the NHS have published helpful details on “who should have a flu vaccine” and who is eligible for the free vaccination, including carers.
