    The British Deaf Association is delighted with the unanimous cross-party support for the British Sign Language Bill on its second reading in the House of Commons on 28 January.The BDA now calls upon Ministers and MPs to do everything in their power to get the British Sign Language Bill to Royal Assent in this parliamentary session and deliver long- overdue recognition, inclusion and equality to the Deaf community in Britain.

  • Wheels Friendly Walks

    Wheels Friendly Walks

    If you fancy more fresh air and exercise you can get out into Sheffield parks and green spaces with Step out Sheffield’s weekly walks. All walks are completely free and led by trained Volunteer Walk Leaders. Many walks are wheels-friendly and most groups offer walks at different paces to make sure that everyone travels at a speed that is comfortable whatever your age or level of fitness. Guide and assistance dogs are welcome on all walks.

    National Disability Strategy Declared Unlawful

    The High Court has declared that the Government’s National Disability Strategy is unlawful due to inadequate consultation with disabled people.Disability activists Miriam Binder, Jean Eveleigh, Doug Paulley and Vicki Hon brought the case against the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Therese Coffey, arguing that she had failed to provide sufficient information on the proposed Strategy to allow for a meaningful response.

    Return to Plan A

    The Prime Minister has announced that England’s Plan B measures will end on Thursday January 27th including compulsory mask-wearing on public transport and in shops. Equality campaigners are calling on the Government to reverse their decision as many disabled and vulnerable people are still shielding at home and do not feel safe to go out.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
