LGBT History Month and Parapride

LGBT History Month and Parapride

LGBT+ History Month was founded 18 years ago by Schools OUT, a charity making educational institutions safe spaces for our lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans communities. It now takes place each February. This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the first Pride March in the UK. The theme for LGBT+ History Month 2022 is Politics In Art: The Arc Is Long.

Parapride has launched a new digital project: Our Stories – a series of video testimonials that feature co-members of the LGBTQIA+ Disabled community, talking about disability inclusion in the queer community, sharing some of the struggles but especially speaking up about the stories of empowerment through their lived experiences.

With this project, Parapride aims to change the narrative and challenge the misrepresentation of Disabled people. Videos will be released weekly in February and March on the Parapride YouTube channel.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJ8LBqmzoEA&t=22s

Very good presentation, brave of the speakers to tell their stories and had a very high impact - feedback from Mate/Hate Crime presentation and video session at Safeguarding Working Together Conference

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
