    Volunteers Week ( 1-7 June ) is a time to celebrate the fantastic contribution volunteers make to our communities . We are enormously proud that our role call of volunteers is expanding as our projects continue to grow successfully with their input. We benefit greatly from our volunteers knowledge, skills and experience, ideas and enthusiasm and would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to all our volunteers past and present.

    Taxi Consultation - Share your Views

    After extensive work at pace on local taxi policy consultations at Disability Sheffield there is now a national taxi guidance consultation. We know a lot of the issues many disabled people have to book or get the assistance they need whether for taxis or private hire services are not unique to this city. Contributing to this consultation on national guidance by 20 June should help to ensure improvements can be made for us and more widely.

  • Accessible Bus Stop Realtime Information Trial

    Accessible Bus Stop Realtime Information Trial

    A new method for accessing real time bus information is currently being trialled in the City Centre. It is designed to make bus departure information available to all with audio announcements made on request using a push button. You now have the opportunity to give feedback on the audio and the visual elements of the information system at consultations@disabilitysheffield.org.uk.

    Sheffield Cost of Living Fund Donations

    South Yorkshire’s Community Foundation has set up a JustGiving page asking for donations to a Sheffield Cost of Living Fund from anyone who feels able to help those who are struggling more than them.The fund will be made available as grants to organisations, including food banks, that are supporting local people with the cost of living crisis.The Chancellor announced new measures to support low income households at the end of April.

    Sheffield Transport 4 All Letter to new South Yorkshire Mayor

    Last week Sheffield Transport 4 All wrote to new Mayor Oliver Coppard highlighting key items of their response to the South Yorkshire Enhanced Bus Partnership. The letter calls for SYMCA to take more of a role in providing support for the group as the mayoral authority gains more influence over transport and moves this away from local authorities.

    Sheffield Health and Care Partnership is encouraging as many people as possible across the city to have a “what matters to you” conversation with someone on Thursday 9th June as part of an International Person Centred Campaign.The campaign organisers claim that having better, more meaningful conversations with others about what matters to them, helps people feel more confident, more motivated and more likely to achieve their ambitions.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
