Thank you for Volunteering with Us!

Thank you for Volunteering with Us!

Volunteers Week takes place from 1-7 June every year. It’s a chance to recognise and celebrate the fantastic contribution volunteers make to our communities including here at Disability Sheffield.

It goes without saying that volunteers have played a key role in the pandemic response. During an exceptionally difficult couple of years, people from all walks of life around the UK have taken the time to volunteer and make a huge difference to their communities – just as they do every year. Our PPE Coordinator Jake would particularly like to say a huge thank you to our Volunteer PPE Delivery Drivers Claire, Sue, Janet and Francesca, as well as all of our past volunteers who helped us deliver PPE at such a difficult time, saying

“While the world is slowly getting back to normal for many people, a large number of disabled people and their carers are unable to socially distance from each other and so still need PPE to protect themselves and each other. Without the hard work and perseverance of our PPE volunteers, hundreds of disabled people and their carers would not have had access to the PPE they need to receive their required care and support. Rain or shine our volunteers have been making an average of 160 deliveries of PPE a month, and we can’t thank them enough for all their hard work over the past two years”.

We are enormously proud that our role call of volunteers is expanding as our projects continue to grow successfully with their input. We benefit greatly from our volunteers knowledge, skills and experience, ideas and enthusiasm and would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all our volunteers past and present. Though we can’t name everyone here we are sharing some of your stories on our various social media sites this week.

The work we do at Disability Sheffield would not be possible without our valued volunteers who help us to deliver our services – providing advocacy support, writing about news , helping with admin, delivering PPE, supporting our projects Sheffield Cycling 4 All , Sheffield Voices learning disability and autism group and our Healthy Living Co-Producation project , helping with research, filming videos, and last but not least our board of trustees! We hope that you are aware how much we appreciate your contribution and commitment , not just this week but all 52 of them!

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.
