A new BBC2 series called Saved and Remade will soon be filming in Yorkshire and is looking for people to take part. The Casting Producer has contacted Disability Sheffield to say that inclusion is very important to them and they would like to ensure disabied people are represented.The closing date to apply is 30 November 2020

Speakup are raising awareness about the new Covid 19 Grab and Go sheet this week. If you have a learning disability or autism and need to go into hospital because of Coronavirus the Grab and Go sheet gives the information doctors and nurses need. Book a Grab and Go session on Zoom taking place every day this week from 11am to 12 noon.

It’s called ‘From Relaxation to Resistance – a Celebration of our Lives in Lockdown’. DPAC is inviting you to send them short videos of 2-4 minutes of any creative work howing what you’ve been doing over the last 6-7 months. Please send your work by mid November at the latest

For the past few months Get Yourself Active has been undertaking research with the aim of finding out the experiences of disabled people around getting physically active during the Covid-19 outbreak. Before developing their full ‘Active at Home’ video series they would welcome your feedback on their first pilot exercise videos as a way of testing their learning.

The government has introduced local COVID alert levels in a bid to ensure “the right levels of intervention in the right places to manage outbreaks”. Local COVID alert levels set out information for local authorities, residents and workers about what to do and how to manage the outbreak in their area. Local COVID alert levels are sometimes called ‘tiers’ or known as a ‘local lockdown’. Sheffield has been placed in the ‘High’ category. Find out what that means for you.

A new online hub has been launched to help young people into work and training. Inspire_SY has been set up by Sheffield City Council, backed by the local Department Of Work And Pensions to share training, job and support opportunities from businesses and partner organisations .

Sheffield ME Group are hosting a series of online activities from the 5th to the 23rd of October designed for people affected by ME/Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia and/or long Covid symptoms. It’s their very first Octoberfest. Their October calendar has daily events including , mindfulness, nutrition, playreading, singing and writing workshops and a murder mystery! Being disabled often leads to people using huge amounts of ingenuity to make their lives easier. Now a leading equality and inclusion activist has produced podcasts to share others’ tips. Phil Friend, chair of the Research Institute for Disabled Consumers launched the Gear, Gadgets and Gizmos series last year. Phil has completed 16 podcasts featuring a variety of people from the disability world and is always on the lookout for other people willing to take part.

Personal Independence Payment assessments taking place over the phone are now to be recorded following the ‘On the Record’ campaign spearheaded by DPAC Sheffield, the local branch of campaigning organisation Disabled People Against Cuts and supported by Disability Sheffield. There had been much controversy over these assessments with claims of dishonesty and many people’s benefits being cut or removed altogether.
