The European Network of Independent Living (ENIL), in partnership with five other disability organisations have launched a new initiative, the COVID-19 Disability Rights Monitor, which aims to collect information about what states are doing to protect the core rights of disabled people including the rights to life, access to health and essential services. You can take part by completing their survey.

In preparation for the introduction of Mental Health classes in schools form September 2020, Mental Health Today have produced a glossary of terms to highlight how the language used around mental health can affect discussions about it. They say that many expressions seen in plans for mental health classes are at best problematic and could be at worst deeply damaging.

The National Survivor User Network are releasing a series of video posts by their members called #NSUNcovidlife .During the latest broadcast Clare Shaw, who is described as a ‘poet, performer and survivor’ reflects on lockdown. The NSUN has also launched a Covid-19 Fund to support user-led organisations and smaller, unconstituted community groups in England, who might not otherwise be eligible for a grant.

Relationship Matters is a new partnership between 15 Local Authorities across Yorkshire and the Humber Region helping families who may be having relationship difficulties. The new website offers families information, tips and support to stay calm and work out what needs to happen and signposts to further help.

Healthwatch Sheffield are working with researchers from the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre (AWRC) to recruit people for a Public Involvement in Research Group (PIRG).Group members will meet virtually or face to face and regularly review ongoing research, new applications for grants and the development of new ideas and products that aim to help people to move more and improve their wellbeing.

The government has published information detailing how you can get help if you have difficulties claiming benefits and pensions because of a disability or long term health condition. If you require an adjustment and you feel that the Department for Work and Pensions service or information is not accessible, you can make a complaint.

Mencap, the charity that describes itself as ‘the voice of learning disability’ has launched its own TV channel to alleviate loneliness during the lockdown. It has arrived at a time when research by the Office for National statistics on Coronavirus and the social impacts on disabled people in Great Britain , shows that many people with learning disabilities have lost social support during the Covid-19 crisis.

A charity set up by a Sheffield woman to offer support to youngsters living with cerebral palsy and similar disabilities has released a version of the classic song You’ve Got A Friend, performed by some of the children and young people of CP Teens ,to say thanks to and raise funds for the NHS. CP Teens UK, the brainchild of Ellie Simpson, also recently held a Virtual Wobble to raise money for themselves with participants being filmed doing their distance.
