International Monitoring of COVID 19 Measures

International Monitoring of COVID 19 Measures

The European Network of Independent Living (ENIL), in partnership with five other disability organisations have launched a new initiative, the COVID-19 Disability Rights Monitor.

ENIL believes evidence is emerging that disabled people are being disproportionately affected by the Coronavirus pandemic. The Monitor aims to conduct rapid independent monitoring of the emergency measures being taken by governments worldwide and prevent human rights violations from taking place. The first element of this global initiative is the launch of two surveys requesting official information from governments and requesting the testimonies of disabled people and their representative organisations.

The COVID-19 Disability Rights Monitor aims to collect information about what states are doing to protect the core rights of disabled people including the rights to life, access to health and essential services.

The initiative seeks to highlight issues faced by disabled people in situations of heightened vulnerability, including those living in institutions and their own homes, children, older persons, those who are homeless and people in rural settings.

To take part in the surveys visit COVID-19 Disability Rights Monitor.

Questions about the initiative can be directed to monitoring@covid-drm.org

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
