Housing Ombudsman Calls for Evidence

The Housing Ombudsman is urging the social housing sector to get to grips with social injustices as many of their cases show a failure to fulfil obligations around human rights, including the Equality Act or to adhere to vulnerable persons policy. You can give your views in their survey calling for evidence which closes on 3 August 2023.

Disabled People's Reliance On Food Banks

More than half of households experiencing food insecurity, and three quarters of people referred to food banks say that they or a member of their household are disabled, according to new research from The Trussell Trust in their report,‘Hunger In The UK’. The Trust says that the most significant cause driving the need for food banks is the design and delivery of the social security system.

Wheelchair Buggy's A Winner

A state-of-the-art buggy which fixes to wheelchairs, designed by Sheffield Hallam University student,Tom Baker, has won a major design competition. Bolt Burdon Kemp’s ‘Design the Change’ Competition raises awareness of the day-to-day challenges facing people with spinal cord injuries.

The European Network on Independent Living (ENIL) is a user-led network of disabled people, with members throughout Europe.
