Natalie Yarrow, Disability Sheffield’s Vice Chairperson would like to say a big thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of Sunday’s event at The Barrel in Chapeltown – “ to the brilliant landlady Steph Tate and her fabulous team, the Alice in Wonderland characters and an assortment of stallholders, our amazing volunteers, staff members and trustees, all of whom helped to raise the profile of Disability Sheffield whilst generating much-appreciated funds. Workplace Personal Assistants Policy

Disability Sheffield has been working in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University and University of York to continue the development of their research project, Workplace Personal Assistants (WPA). We are keen to work with employers to develop a policy/guidance that can be adapted for each workplace and easily adopted by businesses to ensure that all aspects of having WPAs are considered.

Pavement Parking Inquiry

Disability Sheffield and the Disability Hub together with the Access Liaison Group have put together a response to the Transport Committee Pavement Parking Inquiry highlighting pavement parking as a seriously dangerous issue for wheelchair users, people with mobility impairments, blind people and people with sensory impairments or any pavement user forced to leave the pavement and use the public highway, which poses obvious risks.

Social Care Crisis and Independent Living Threat

It has taken from as far back as March 2017, when the Government said that it would publish a Green Paper on social care. Here we provide an update and link on the ‘forthcoming’ Green Paper on social care for adults, which we understand will now be published at “the earliest opportunity”.

We’re grateful to The Barrel pub in Chapeltown who will be hosting a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party to raise money for Disability Sheffield on Sunday May 26th, from noon till 4pm. We hope you can come along and we’d love to hear from you if you’re willing to volunteer to support us by helping out on the afternoon with fundraising activities such as hosting fete type games and manning our information stand.
