Finding Out The Personal Impacts Of Covid-19

The health impacts of coronavirus are well-known but how has the crisis affected the rest of your life? Public Health have developed a questionnaire to support their understanding of the positive and negative impacts of Covid19 in Sheffield.It should take around 10-15 min to complete the questionnaire and you have until the end of August to do so if you’d like to take part.

Sheffield CCG has created a video of GP practice staff from across Sheffield reminding the public that they’re still open and #StillHereForYou. The video shows Sheffield GPs urging members of the public to visit their GP especially if they experience particular symptoms so that they can be treated quickly.

LNER Improves Service for Disabled Passengers Following Legal Challenge

Train operating company LNER has entered into a legal agreement with the Equality and Human Rights Commission to improve its service for disabled passengers following a successful legal challenge from a visually impaired customer who received inadequate support and assistance whilst using LNER’s Passenger Assist service.

Disabled People Facing Discrimination over Face Coverings

Disability Rights UK has written to the Minister for Disabled People, Justin Tomlinson MP, raising concerns that disabled people are not being listened to when it comes to exemptions from wearing face masks. “We would ask that government urgently recognises the need for balanced messaging, including that some disabled people cannot wear face coverings and that this should be respected.”

Disabled claimants are preparing to legal action over guidance for councils on managing pavements during COVID-19.

Two disabled people are raising funds for a legal challenge to Government guidance to local authorities on managing pavements for more walking and cycling during the pandemic. ·They say the guidance , ‘Reallocating road space in response to COVID-19: statutory guidance for local authorities, pays little attention to the needs of disabled people and is mainly concerned with promoting walking and cycling as alternatives to public transport during the pandemic, with only a brief reference to disability. -
Changing Places Compulsory from 2021
20 July 2020
Changing Places toilets are larger accessible toilets with a wider range of facilities than standard accessible toilets, and include hoists, changing benches and space for carers. From 2021 new buildings including shopping centres, supermarkets, sports and arts venues in England will have to include at least one Changing Places toilet.The government’s announcement will be a major change for building rules in England.

Disabled People 'Abandoned' During Covid-19 Crisis Report Claims

A report by Inclusion London , a leading disability organisation, claims that discrimination has increased during the last few months as people’s needs have been pushed to one side by government and major organisations. The report concludes that “the government needs to make it a priority to understand the needs of disabled people and give serious consideration to their findings and recommendations. It is also vital that Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisations and disabled people are involved in developing and planning policies that affect us at local, regional and national levels.”

SYPTE Travel Survey

South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive is carrying out a public consultation to find out how different communities travelled before the lockdown, how their travel has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and how this has affected their future travel plans. Face Coverings Compulsory in Shops from 24th July

It has been compulsory to wear a face covering on public transport in England since 15 June and from 24th July face coverings will have to be worn in shops and supermarkets. People who do not follow the new rules could be fined up to £100, however children under 11 and people who are unable to wear face coverings because of their health condition ( and for other reasons ) do not have to wear one. There is no official exemption card and you do not have to provide any proof. It is not compulsory to show an exemption card but if you would like to carry a card you can download and print off a card you consider appropriate for you from various websites.

Returning to School Survey

Sheffield City Council have produced a questionnaire hoping to hear from families who have a child with special educational needs and/or a disability (SEND) about any concerns they have regarding the return to school in September. The questionnaire is open until Friday 24 July.
