Emergency Alerts is a new UK government service that will warn you if there’s a danger to life nearby. In an emergency, your mobile phone or tablet will receive an alert with advice about how you can stay safe. Please note there will be an Emergency Alerts system test on Sunday 23 April at 3pm. You do not need to take any action and you can opt out if you wish to do so.

There are various adjustments that can be made for drivers with disabilities but people taking a driving test still have to drive to the same standard as everyone else in order to pass. The Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency has made adjustments for learner drivers who are deaf or have a hearing impairment to follow instructions by following prompt cards held up by their examiners during their car driving tests.

Isaac White lives in Sheffield and is a wheelchair user. Living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, Isaac advised Blend Kitchen on the design of their wheelchair-accessible catering kitchen, and has been involved with the restaurant ever since. Isaac is organising a synth pop fundraising event at Blend Kitchen on Friday 19th of May 2023 with proceeds going to Action Duchenne.

A major national anti-poverty charity – Turn2Us – are seeking the stories of those who have successfully claimed PIP so that others can be encouraged to make a claim. Turn2us is known for its online tools to help people understand and access their rights and are developing a new online tool to help people claim.

Sheffield City Council is running a survey to gather information on whether, and what hot spots there are for issues with certain forms of pavement parking and obstructing dropped kerb crossing points. The short timescale ( closing date 27 March ) seems to indicate a wish to minimise the issue so please make it a priority to show council parking service otherwise!

Women experiencing mental illness across Sheffield & South Yorkshire can say SODIT – by joining an organisation for Survivors Of Depression In Transition, aiming to help them move on.SODIT provides support services like a self-help (peer) group made up of women who have personal experience of the same issue or life situation , facilitates counselling services and offers creative courses. Their next peer support group starts on 23 March.

The Elections Act 2022 has introduced a new requirement for voters in England to show photo ID before voting in person at a polling station. If you are registered to vote but don’t hold one of the acceptable forms of photo ID ( passport, driving license, bus pass, blue badge etc ), you can apply for a voter authority certificate free of charge following verification of your identity. You will not need photo ID if you vote by post.
