We Are Undefeatable Campaign

A major new campaign has been launched to support the 15 million people who live with one or more long-term health conditions in England. ‘We Are Undefeatable’ recognises the unique barriers that people living with health conditions face and shows the emotional stories of men and women living with a variety of conditions getting active in ways that work for them.

Making Patient and Public Involvement Better Together Workshop

MPs Recommend Ban on Pavement Parking

Disability Sheffield are pleased to report that this month MPs have recommended a ban on pavement parking across England. Written evidence submitted by Disability Sheffield, the Disability Hub and the Access Liaison Group said accessibility to transport and the built environment is often reported as one of eight most disabling barriers to disabled people’s participation.

Getting Fitter is Still Within Reach

Within Reach’s new brochure, designed to engage disabled people of all ages and ability levels to take part in sports and physical activities, is now available. It provides information on local sports clubs and leisure facilities in and around with club details, session times and dates, costs as well as affiliation details.

All Change At The Theatre

Spectrum Theatre, an integrated theatre group in Sheffield which contains both autistic and non-autistic members, is holding a performance of its latest play this weekend called All Change. The Performance is on Saturday 21st September at 7.30 at the Merlin Theatre in Nether Edge.

Music Club in the Accessibility Top Ten

Sheffield music venue The Leadmill has been named as one of the best in Britain by an organisation devoted to improving access for disabled concertgoers. Attitude Is Everything puts the Leadmill in its top ten for all concert halls nationwide and adds that it is one of the four best rock haunts due to its ground floor location, nearness to public transport and its staff’s helpful attitude.

Has Your GP Refused To Help With Benefits Claims?

Campaigning organisation Disabled People Against Cuts is launching an investigation into why some doctors are refusing to help their patients by writing letters to support their disability benefits claims. If your doctor has refused to write a letter stating that you need a home visit for a benefit assessment or has refused to issue you with a Fit Note, DPAC would like to hear from you.

NICE Rise In Standards Of Support

The National Institute of Health and Social Care Excellence have published this month two quality standards related to the support of people with learning disabilities or a learning disability and autism. The standard on the care and support of people with learning disabilities growing older is a new Quality Standard.The standard on supporting children, young people and adults where there is behaviour that challenges has been updated from the original 2015 version.

Universal Credit Scam Warning To Public

South Yorkshire Police are warning members of the public to watch out for a scam involving the Universal Credit benefit advising “Never share your personal or financial information with someone you don’t know and trust, especially if it’s in response to an offer of “free money” or a “free grant” .
