Getting Fitter is Still Within Reach

Getting Fitter is Still Within Reach

Within Reach’s new brochure, designed to engage disabled people of all ages and ability levels to take part in sports and physical activities, is now available.

The charity Within Reach was formed in 2010 and worked in partnership with Sheffield City Council to secure funding from Sport England to support a range of disability sport and physical activity projects across the city. During this period over 7,000 people engaged in hundreds of activity sessions.

Now in the context of an end to Sport England funding ,the winding down of involvement of Within Reach due to the retirement of its chair Michael Elliott, and the reduction in Sheffield City Council’s role in sports provision, the Disability Sport Network has been developed to continue progressing disability sport and physical activity provision across Sheffield.

The 103-page brochure aims to provide people with information on local sports clubs and leisure facilities that are available for disabled people in and around Sheffield. For example, you can find all club details, session times and dates, costs as well as affiliation details. The directory also provides information on sport and leisure facilities as well as useful contacts that can offer you help, assistance or advice. It has been divided alphabetically by club or activity name to make it easier for people to find the right activities for them.

You can download the brochure on the top right of the new Within Reach website

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
