Young Carers' Petition Calls For Free Bus Pass

Young carers in Sheffield have set up a petition calling for free bus passes for young carers so they can undertake their caring responsibilities more easily, carry on with their education, training or employment and have the chance to have a social life.

Young Carers are children and young people under the age of 25 who provide full or part-time care for family members who have a long-term physical illness, a disability, mental health issues, or substance and alcohol misuse issues. Thursday January 31st is national Young Carers Awareness Day, the fifth such event, and this year has an emphasis on mental health.

Sheffield Young Carers is an independent charity set up in 1997. You can see and sign the petition here or on their Twitter site. The petition will be presented to the full council meeting on Wednesday February 6th.

Very good presentation, brave of the speakers to tell their stories and had a very high impact - feedback from Mate/Hate Crime presentation and video session at Safeguarding Working Together Conference

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.
