Learning Disability Week runs from 17th – 23rd June 2024, with the theme ‘Do You See Me?’. The annual campaign aims to raise awareness of the lives of people with a learning disability and ensure they are a visible, valued part of society.
Our Self advocacy group, Sheffield Voices is celebrating all their achievements and increased visibility with a picnic on Tuesday as they head towards their Big Voice Event on Access at the Town Hall on Friday 21 June from 10am to 3pm. They are very much seen and heard !
Local charity Sheffield Mencap is also celebrating this year by exhibiting a series of photographic portraits of their members until the end of June. You can drop-in to Weston Park Museum between 11am–12:30pm and 1:30pm–3pm on the 19th, 20th and 21st June to participate in creative workshops with their members. Each session will explore the theme of ‘Do You See Me?’
There’s a free club night arranged by Sheffield Council Commissioners at the Lughole on Wednesday 19th, including friends and family ( doors open at 7pm ) and Sheffield Voices are performing their play ‘Welcome to Sunny Smiles’ at The Workstation to providers in Sheffield on Thursday 19th.
