Ways You Can Support Disability Sheffield

Nineteen per cent of people living in Sheffield – nearly 1 in 5 of us, are disabled. That may be you, a relative, a friend or neighbour. Disability Sheffield has gained a good reputation locally and nationally for the quality of our services and projects. You may not realise that we are only a small charity with 8 members of staff working part time and a small team of dedicated volunteers. Though we do our best with limited resources to promote Disability Sheffield we know that we aren’t reaching as many disabled people in the city as we’d like to. We’re hoping you can:-

Support Us by Volunteering at Community Events
We are often asked to attend and have a stall at community events across the city but we, quite simply, don’t have the person power.

Disability Sheffield needs more volunteers to help us to spread the word. Could you spare a couple of hours, whenever you can make it, to attend some up and coming events on our behalf? Your volunteer expenses will be paid for. We’d provide the training and support to give you the confidence to say “ Ask Us About Disability Sheffield “ to anyone who wants to know more about us.
Kelham Island Museum is taking part in Disabled Access Day 2016 on Saturday the 12th of March from 10am – 4pm and we’d like to ask you to join us. The Museum is celebrating their work around disability access and will invite feedback about their progress and future plans. They’re offering an Autism Friendly Hour, sensory tours, and talks about access at Kelham Island. This is a great opportunity for us to have a significant presence and highlight this important day.

Support Us by Fundraising
As always Disability Sheffield is trying to find new ways of fundraising. The year ahead will be particularly challenging financially and we are appealing to you for any creative ideas you have to help us to raise money so that we can continue to support disabled people in the city and help make Sheffield a fairer and more accessible city.
If you’re purchasing goods online , especially for special occasions such as birthdays, Valentine’s day , your holidays and Christmas etc please name us as your charity of choice when you shop with Easyfundraising here

Are you or any of your friends or family intending to take part in any events or activities where you could name Disability Sheffield as your charity of choice for sponsorship?
If you would like to support our work or register Disability Sheffield for your sponsored event please go to the Justgiving website .

Whether you’re interested in volunteering at community events and/or have any ideas for fundraising , however unusual, different or wacky, we’d love to hear from you.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
