Video Vote Gives Disabled People A Sporting Chance

Video Vote Gives Disabled People A Sporting Chance

Who says disabled people aren’t competitive? Well, you have the chance to prove that they are – and can also play to win – by voting for a fundraising video in a prestigious contest.

Activity Alliance, formerly known as the English Federation of Disability Sport, is an organisation which aims to make active lives possible by enabling organisations to support disabled individuals to be and stay active.

Their video – Who Says Disabled People Aren’t Competitive? – has been entered for this year’s Charity Film Awards, which were created to celebrate the success of film in fundraising, to increase exposure of charity films and to encourage donations for good causes

It is one of a series of six created by the Alliance based on their recent research about non-disabled people’s attitudes on inclusive activity with disabled people. More than 2,000 non-disabled people undertook online interviews showing that although there was a general lack of awareness, inexperience and unfamiliarity with disabled people most of those interviewed were open to taking part in inclusive sports and recreation. The results of the survey have recently been published.

Sarah Brown-Fraser, Activity Alliance Marketing and Communications Manager, said: “The stark reality is that disabled people are the least active audience in our country. What people say and think play a huge part in how active we are. People’s attitudes can make or break disabled people’s experiences. We are so proud of the campaign’s impact so far. Stay tuned for more films in the future too as that was just the beginning.”

You can watch and then vote for this particular video here. Voting closes on Sunday December 1.

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
