Since its adoption by the UN General Assembly on 13 December 2006, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Disabled People (CRDP) has been a major global catalyst for the progression of disabled people’s rights.
The CRDP became one of the most quickly supported international human rights treaties in history and it now has 163 signatories. Governments who ratify the CRDP agree to be examined every few years to check how far the rights of Deaf and Disabled people set out in the treaty are being fulfilled. Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisations (DPPOs) play a key role in the examination process, submitting “shadow” reports to the UN Committee responsible for the CRDP.
We are holding two UN CRDP Capacity-building and Consultation workshop events in November on Zoom.
Sheffield Voices is hosting an event for people with a learning disability and/or autism on 11th November between 6-8pm to explain what your rights are under the UN CRDP and listen to your views. View Poster for details and how to book a place.
Disability Sheffield is holding a second event for disabled people which will give an over-view of the CRDP and the shadow reporting process on Tuesday 16th November between 6–8pm . View Poster for details and how to book a place or go to our Eventbrite page to book a place
Participants in our workshops will help shape the next shadow report as DDPOs prepare for the next examination of the UK under the CRDP.
