UK's Most Influential Disability Campaigner

UK's Most Influential Disability Campaigner

A woman named as Britain’s most influential disabled person has told some of her story on BBC Radio Four’s Women’s Hour.

Dr Shani Dhanda applied for over a hundred jobs after leaving school as a 16-year-old but was never even offered an interview until she applied for one without mentioning her disability. Shani got the job.

Since then Shani has campaigned for disability rights and was recently named at the top of the Shaw Trust Power 100

Shani is a multi-award-winning disability inclusion specialist, thought leader, social entrepreneur, and accomplished broadcaster. She’s driven change by establishing Diversability, the Asian Woman Festival, and the Asian Disability Network, all dedicated to combating global social inequality.

The interview , by Anita Rani, starts 35 minutes 40 seconds into the broadcast.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
