The Young Carer, Parent and Adult Carer Strategy Update August 2017

Sheffield City Council have been involved in creating The Young Carer, Parent and Adult Carer Strategy (the Strategy). They wanted to know what it was like being a carer in Sheffield ,including the difficulties and challenges. Nearly a thousand carers responded via questionnaires, meetings, phone calls and one-to-one discussions. A range of expert partners responded to the feedback from carers by writing the Strategy, which is a plan to improve carers’ lives by addressing the challenges/issues that carers described.

The Strategy sets out the vision that Sheffield becomes a ‘city where carers are valued and have the right support to continue to care for as long as they want to’. If you would like to read the Strategy in full, the document can be found here .

Sheffield City Council has produced a You Said, We Did Update to show that they value carers’ input and expertise and how they have acted upon it.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
