Sheffield Students Play Their Part in Rio Paralympic Games

r60 A group of media students and apprentices recently broadcast a live stream of a selection draw for the Paralympics from the new television studio at Sheffield College’s Hillsborough campus.

The draw took place to decide which countries would compete against one another in the Paralympics Wheelchair Rugby in September, and was streamed from the College this term simultaneously to officials in Brazil and Canada, so the draw could be internationally verified. Representatives from the Brazilian team also took part via a Skype link that fed into the live programme.

In the Sheffield College news article about the broadcast Matt Neale, Head of Learning, Media and Performing Arts, The Sheffield College, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our media students and apprentices to test their technical skills and play their part in a global sporting event”

John Bishop, President of the International Wheelchair Rugby Federation, said: “I would like to thank the students for making this event a success. The facilities were excellent and we really appreciate them sharing their skills and talent with us.”

Very good presentation, brave of the speakers to tell their stories and had a very high impact - feedback from Mate/Hate Crime presentation and video session at Safeguarding Working Together Conference

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
