Personal health budgets offer a real opportunity to enable people with learning disabilities to live in their own homes or with their families, rather than in institutions. NHS England has begun to offer personal health budgets and joint health and social care budgets to people with learning disabilities who have complex health needs or whose behaviour is viewed as challenging . People with learning disabilities eligible for NHS Continuing Healthcare now have a right to have a personal health budget. To help you to understand what personal health budgets are and how you might be able to start the process of getting one, Disability Sheffield has produced a short film in partnership with NHS England. In the film members of Sheffield Voices , a learning disability self advocacy group at Disability Sheffield, present ‘Samantha’s story’ . To view the film and for more information on personal health budgets View NHS England’s Website.
